Medicare Waiver Program

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging (PDA) Waiver program is a program that is designed specifically to help individuals over the age of 60, who are in need of the type of care that they would receive at a nursing home, receive care in their own home instead.  For those individuals who are eligible for the PDA Waiver program, the program can provide extensive assistance to maintain these individuals in their home.  Some of the services that can be provided or purchased through the PDA Waiver program include:

Personal Care                                         Housekeeping Services

Home Delivered Meals                           Physical Therapy

Medical Supplies and Equipment          Speech Therapy

Caregiver Respite Services                   Occupational Therapy

Adult Day Care                                        Emergency Response Units

Registered Nurse                                    Transportation

Home Health Aide                                   Mental Health Counseling

In Union and Snyder Counties, the PDA Waiver program is administered through the Union-Snyder Agency on Aging, Inc.  Staff from the Agency on Aging comes to your home to evaluate if you may be eligible for this program.  If you are determined to be eligible for the Waiver program, then an Agency Care Manger will work with you on an ongoing basis to obtain the services that you need to stay in your home safely.

In order to be eligible for the PDA Wavier program, individuals must be aged 60 or older, reside in Union or Snyder County, have a monthly income of less than 300% of the SSI level (currently $1737/month) and have assets of less than $8000.  In addition to the financial criteria for eligibility, the individual must be physically determined to need the type of care that they would receive in a nursing home, but who choose to remain in their home instead.

The Waiver program can provide extensive amounts of services for eligible individuals, so that these individuals can stay in their own home.  However, the Waiver program does have restrictions on the amount of money that can be spent on services over a period of time.  Your Care Manger will work with you to obtain the services you need while not exceeding the amount of money that can be spent on your care.

If you are interested in the PDA Waiver program, or you know someone who may be eligible, please call the Union-Snyder Agency on Aging, Inc. for more information at (570) 524-2100 or (570) 374-5558 locally  or 1 (800) 533-1050 (toll free).
